Trepang Hotel Group has announced the purchase of the Kimberley Sands Resort in Broome with plans to restart the business as early as May.
The Kimberley Sands Resort and Spa in Broome could reopen as soon as May folllowing a new deal with Trepang Hotel Group.
Hotel operator Cable Beach Operations Pty Ltd was placed into liquidation on February 12 and the contract to purchase the company assets was executed on February 13, the sale being overseen by Pitcher Partners’ Andrew Yeo and Gess Rambaldi.
The Trepang Hotel Group, owned by Northern Territory businessman John ‘Foxy’ Robinson has purchased the company’s assets a month after it entered into voluntary administration owing creditors around $4.5 million.
Mr Yeo said the landlord had agreed to purchase the assets, including furnishing and fittings, for the 72-room resort.
“It is a good outcome for Broome, as the new owner has plans to reopen a revamped hotel business, and this has been a very popular resort for both locals and for tourists into Broome” he said.

Trepang’s Ainslie MacLean said the group had a strong record as tourism operators, alongside a range of other business interests.
“We have the Kimberley Grande in Kununurra, in Darwin we have the Rydges Palmerston which we own and operate, and we are building a 192-room hotel at the Coolangatta Airport on the Gold Coast” she said.
“This will be the first niche market luxury hotel in our portfolio and we will be looking to reopen for the beginning of May ready for the tourist season”.
Ms MacLean says Trepang will keep the Kimberley Sands Resort and Spa name but will remove its adult only policy before relaunching, with Trepang expected to invest in modernising and upgrading some of the facilities.
