National Cabinet's latest meeting and announcements has brought hope to the hotel industry.
The latest announcement from the Federal Government after today's National Cabinet meeting has been a positive one, as it establishes the roadmap out of COVID-19 restrictions for many industries.
What has been missing up to this point, has been a timeline, with restrictions to the hotel industry seeming to have no end.
While the plan has been structured in three main steps, Prime Minister Scott Morrison highlighted that it will be dependent on each state and territory to move at different times, based on local conditions.
"Today we move ahead with reeopening of the economy with a clear framework," said PM Morrison.
"The next step is to build confidence and momentum that will see our economy back up and running.
"Then we can reset our economy for growth in this new environment."
What this means for the hotel industry is the reopening of pubs, clubs and accommodation places possibly by July
Step 1
This will see the reopening of small restaurants, cafes and shops.
It will also include local and regional travel.
Step 2
This will see gatherings of up to 20 people in business and public places and also include some interstate travel
Step 3
This will increase gathering sizes to 100 people, the reopening of nightclubs and food courts
Pubs and clubs, with some restrictions, will be allowed to open.
Interstate, trans-Tasman and Pacific Island travel will also be allowed.
Timeline
The Prime Minister said more work will need to be done on steps 2 and 3 dependent on the success of step 1.
"It is our aspiration that in July we will have moved through these three steps," said PM Morrison.
"The pace though will be totally up to the states and territories setting their own time table and communicating that to their residents."
International travel, however, is not to be visited anytime in the near future.
