The development consortium behind Sorrento’s $100 million Hotel Continental has unveiled its vision for the venue and re-commenced construction at the iconic site following the purchase of the site earlier in the year.
The next steps of Continental Hotel redevelopment in the Victorian coastal suburb of Sorrento have been unveiled, with a development consortium outlining plans to transform the site into a "true regional resort venue" incorporating four distinct platforms.
The consortium, consisting of the Victor Smorgon Group, Kanat Group and Trenerry Property, has engaged Urban as project managers and Hamilton Marino as the builder for the redevelopment, with Woods Bagot appointed as the project’s principal architects and interior designers.
It comes after Trenerry Property reportedly secured the venue for $14.5 million back in May.

According the consortium, the master plan is based on four main elements: wellness and lifestyle, an exclusive five-star luxury hotel, various food and beverage venues, and designated event spaces.
The wellness component is currently proposed to include a hydro, boutique gym and day spa experience, featuring a series of pools and sauna treatment rooms and medi-spa treatment facilities inspired by the likes of the Lefay Resort Group in Italy and Aire Ancient Sea Baths in New York.
With the recent and additional acquisition of a neighbouring Riley lane property, the hotel component will offer a luxury 5-star experience across over 100 rooms, many with water views.

There is also plans to include three event spaces with the restoration of the venue’s iconic grand ballroom.
Food and beverage offerings will come in the form of a public bar and bistro, fine dining restaurant, a glass-ceiling conservatory and cocktail bars.
Stage One of construction will initially focus on securing and reinforcing the basement structure and attending to critical remediation works to the heritage building, in close consultation with Heritage Victoria, before moving onto the basement level concreting up to ground level.
Development Manager Robert Dicintio, of Trenerry Property Group, said the Hotel Continental was an important investment for the consortium, which will own the asset for the long term together with retaining ownership and management of the various venues within the development.
“The redevelopment of the Hotel Continental is a long-term proposition for the consortium," he said.
"We are committed not only to the successful redevelopment of the site but its long-term success and viability as a significant economic driver for the Peninsula.
“Our vision is to see the Hotel Continental revitalised and returned it to its former glory, as a place where the community can come together and celebrate the best local produce, service, hospitality and experiences that are truly unique to the Mornington Peninsula."
The development team will commence an expressions of interest campaign to a select shortlisted group and appoint a well-renowned hotel operator to assist with the management of the hotel and function components of the development.
