Bayleys Gordon McGregor has sold the business of Hotel DeBrett in central Auckland to be settled in September this year.
The business was purchased by Habitat Hotels & Apartments as their first acquisition. It will join Ohtel group under a “sister” brand which has hotels in both Wellington and Auckland.
Mr McGregor said the hotel is a heritage icon in Auckland originally built almost two centuries ago. He added that the sale price of the business was undisclosed.
The property itself is a boutique 25-room hotel with significant history housed in a Historic Places Trust building having been built in 1841. It was originally opened as Auckland’s first hotel in 1841 and named The Commercial Hotel. Today, Hotel DeBrett is well-known for delivering an exceptional boutique guest experience in a stunning art deco environment. Each of the guest suites have a distinct personality with a chic mix of retro furniture and New Zealand art, fused with contemporary comforts.
Located on High Street, surrounded by laneways and eateries, Hotel DeBrett is within easy access to Britomart, lower Queen Street and the city waterfront. Vibrant and designed with style, the hotel restaurant, bar and atrium, as well as the Corner Bar offer plenty of places to unwind and relax.
The current owner has operated the business for five years and has decided to focus his attention on other operations within his group. Habitat are expanding their operations in New Zealand and focus on boutique properties where they can offer their guests unique experiences in an environment surrounded by high quality and tasteful furnishings.
Adam Cunningham, Managing Director of Habitat Hotels & Apartments commented, “Hotel DeBrett is the first property in our Habitat portfolio and it completely embodies our core values on providing genuine customer service in a luxurious yet unpretentious setting. We are so proud to have the hotel and its team join us and continue to deliver this boutique experience for our valued guests.”
Hotel DeBrett joins Ohtel as its other Auckland property under the sister brand Village Accommodation Group.
