The iconic Scamander Beach Resort in Tasmania has been sold by Knight Frank Tasmania’s Charles Black & John Blacklow in conjunction with JLL Hotels & Hospitality’s Senior Vice President Gareth Closter & Vice President Nick MacFie.
Scamander Beach Resort occupies an enviable oceanside position in the popular beachside town located between St Helens and Bicheno on the Tasmania’s East Coast. The recently repositioned asset features 60 guest rooms, 150+ seat restaurant, bistro and a bottle shop, providing diverse income streams and high profit levels.
“We are delighted to announce the sale one of Tasmania’s most prominent resorts which occupies one of the best locations in the State,” said Knight Frank's Charles Black.
Acquired by a well-established portfolio owner, this transaction continues an active theme throughout Australia where the mid-markets sector is becoming increasingly institutionalised. “Historically dominated by ‘mum & dad’ owner-operators, this asset type has recently witnessed record levels of investment from amalgamator groups, syndicators and small-scale funds” commented Mr Closter.
“The transaction shows both the strength of the regional resort/motel investment markets in Australia and the strong post COVID rebound the Tasmanian market has enjoyed” said JLL’s Nick MacFie.
When commenting on the sale, John Blacklow added, “The property was in poor shape when the vendors took over and they have re-positioned the property to it’s former glory.”
Nick MacFie also added, “We received substantial interest from both local groups and mainland Australian buyers scouring for higher yield profiles.”
