Byron Bay's Sun Hotel sold to the Winchester Group through CBRE Hotel’s Wayne Bunz and Paul Fraser.
The Flannery family’s KTQ Group has this week divested The Sun Hotel in Byron Bay after it was snapped up by an investment group, led by Winchester Group.
Winchester Group and its team has previous experience in launching and operating some of Australia’s most iconic hospitality venues, it’s Director, Shaun Dunleavy said that they were excited to once again be working in Byron Bay.
“A change of ownership will allow an opportunity for the venue to enter the next phase of its lifecycle and reimagine itself as a family friendly environment and as one of Byron Bay’s iconic venues,” he continued.
“With Byron seeing major changes in recent years, we want to create a venue with strong roots in the community, that’s welcoming to everyone, source suppliers locally and offer good old-fashioned value for money.”
“Whilst being respectful to the character of the building, it’s location and the spirit of Byron Bay; everything from the branding and bars through to restaurant offering and the beer garden will be thoughtfully re-designed to create a customer-focused experience. A venue for both locals and visitors to Byron to enjoy,” Dunleavy said.

“It’s time for another operator to take the reins and reimagine the offering. We’re pleased to see the Winchester Group step forward to do so.”
CBRE Hotel’s Wayne Bunz and Paul Fraser negotiated the sale on behalf of the Flannery family’s KTQ Group.
CBRE Hotels’ Mr Bunz noted; “Byron continues to be the most sought-after destination in Australia, and we continue to be inundated with enquiry for investors seeking a foothold in the northern NSW area.”
CBRE Hotels have also been involved in several high-profile Byron Bay sales including The Farm, The Bower Byron Bay and Byron at Byron.
The Sun occupies a 7,653sqm freehold landholding located on Byron Bay’s North Beach in a significant growth area, the hotel is surrounded by key demand drivers including Habitat Precinct, The Arts and Industry Estate, Elements of Byron Resort and the North Beach Solar Train Station.
