Probuild has delivered Melbourne’s first leaning building, the mixed-use development Marina Towers Melbourne, months ahead of the contracted program including the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel.
The project has been delivered under a design and construct contract for Singaporean developer Hiap Hoe and features dramatic raking facades across two conjoined towers, one 43 and one 36 storeys, in contrasting colours.
Occupying a 3,795sqm site, the 140 metre towers cantilever over Waterfront City below forming impressive bookend to the Docklands precinct as well as a truly iconic addition to the Melbourne skyline.
The hotel component of Marina Tower, Four Points by Sheraton, has been successfully operating while apartment tower construction continued over the past six months.
In this live construction environment, Probuild and hotel operator Four Points by Sheraton were required to work closely to ensure a smooth transition without disruption to everyday activities and guest experiences. This was achieved through open and clear communication, building upon an already strong relationship between Probuild and Four Points by Sheraton.

Probuild Victorian Managing Director Luke Stambolis said he was proud of the company’s collaboration, and the innovative design and construction techniques that have delivered Marina Tower Melbourne.
“Our design team has collaborated with the client, architects, engineers and consultants to bring this Melbourne first to life.” said Mr Stambolis.
“Marina Tower Melbourne is a truly iconic project. The structure ‘leans’ 280mm each level of the building - there’s nothing else like it in our city.” said Mr Stambolis. Other innovative features include an LED lighting installation to the new public laneway, that transitions from the external environment into the apartment lobby, as well as a space-age sliding roof with integrated solar panels, concealing the retractable building maintenance unit.
Conceived by DKO Architecture in conjunction with cutting-edge engineering by Webber Design, realisation of the façade and structure required a true collaboration between Probuild, the design team and subcontractors.
Construction commenced in April 2015 and was originally scheduled for completion in 2018.
